Dear Parents

The Summer Fayre is nearly here - 3.00 pm on Saturday.  The Friends have been planning it all year and have lots of fun and games for us all.  It clashes with another big event but don’t worry as you will have an opportunity to watch the game in the hall on the big screen with all the community.  Come along and bring your friends and family.

I need to remind everyone not to allow the children on the trim trail as it is not safe at the moment.  Thank you.

Annie

Y6 impressed us all with their performances of Annie this week.  Their characters and personalities shone through and we saw sides to the children that we didn’t know existed. They were confident, professional and pulled together as a team for a top quality performance.  The group songs and solo songs had us spellbound.  Jaina was a very convincing Annie and had the accent off to a tee and as for Rebecca who played Miss Hannigan, she commanded the floor with sensational comic acting.  Marley and Sophie were great as Mr and Mrs Warbucks and everyone acted their socks off.

Katie Bunting directed their performances expertly as always giving the children a professional, authentic experience and I hope some of them have caught the acting bug.  Mrs Sinclair, Miss Holmes, Mrs Holding, Mrs Hillery and Miss Scott worked hard with the children and countless staff were behind the scenes supervising the children, making tea and pulling it all together. Well done everyone – exceptional!

Barbeque

Jason and the TnS team cooked us a delicious barbeque outside yesterday and we sat under the trees with our special lunch (photos on Twitter).  Thank you to all lunch time supervisors and our chefs.

Hello and Goodbye

This year Mr Shipley is leaving us to work in a school much nearer to his home and we thank him for all he has done for sports and competition in our school.  Mr Lancaster is leaving to go travelling around the world and we hope he has some fantastic experiences.  Miss Johnstone is also leaving us after her time in Early Years.  We wish them all well.

We say hello to Hayley Brown who will be in Y6, Lenka Watson in Y1, Kayleigh Ranch in Y4, Lucy Barker in Y2 and Rebecca Forrestal in Y3.  We are so lucky to have found some fantastic new teachers who are already working busily with our teams and familiarising themselves with the school.

We have a very exciting year ahead of us.

Brass

Mr Shipley’s class demonstrated their skills playing their brass instruments this week; the progress they make in 10 weeks is astounding.  We have some star players who hopefully will keep practising and one day be playing alongside Mr Fountain’s sons in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra!

Summer Reading Challenge

Michael from the library service came in to school to inspire us to visit a library and take up the summer library reading challenge.  We know there are a lot of keen readers who will be excited by this.

Choir

We now have two fantastic choirs who performed for their parents and the children this week. The young choir sang us some catchy numbers and we loved their special moves.  The older choir sang some great harmonies and performed songs from The Greatest Showman.  Put them all together and they raised the roof.  Well done Mrs Holding and Miss McDonnell.

Thank you to R Kelly for a super mini beast assembly that the children planned themselves.  We really enjoyed the poem and the mini beast hats were excellent.  We had a lovely burst of Bring Me Sunshine at the end from the children.

Have a lovely sunny weekend.

Alison Harvey
