Dear Parents

Transition

The children have had a lovely week getting to know their new classes and friends.

Most years we reorganise the three classes in each year group to ensure there is a good balance.  The teachers spend many hours ensuring we have a balance of gender, ability, behaviour and friendships etc.  As you know the children select their friends (which may be different to parent wishes) on the understanding that they may only have one or two close friends but will have the potential to make many new friends.

We are unusual in that we have three days for transition enabling the children to gel and sort out any concerns; by the end of the week they have had a great time.

We are fortunate to be in a position where we can reorganise classes as it allows the children to widen their social circles and build resilience for the future.  Of course, they can still catch up with their friends at social times such as play and lunch times as well as at weekends and holidays.

Thank you for your positive approach to the new classes enabling the children to look forward to school in September.

Y6 have had a brilliant transition to their new secondary schools and were buzzing with excitement and stories.

Please come along to the information evenings next week, Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 July, to learn about the new classes.

Goodbye and Best Wishes

At this end of this term Miss Hall and Mrs Mawer will be moving on to new opportunities.  Miss Hall will be following her passion for maths and joining a local academy chain to lead maths across all the schools.  Mrs Mawer is moving to take up a Headship at a school in the local area.  We wish them both well and hope they will keep in touch as they have been an integral part of the team here at Bridgewater.

Brass Concert

Mr Fountain has worked with 3 Hockney as part of the brass project and they really impressed us with their playing this morning after 10 weeks; there were some very confident solo performances alongside the group pieces.  The orchestra sounded amazing and treated us to their latest renditions.  We have appreciated all Mr Fountain’s efforts over the years as he has inspired a generation of brass players.

Sports Awards

Miss Conroy, the team and parents enjoyed a successful Sports Award ceremony this week with the following fantastic results:

ü  Mrs Kressey was nominated for Contribution to School Sport

ü  Dan in Y6 was nominated for Rising Star of the Year award

ü  Callum and Anya won Young Leader of the Year awards

ü  Phoebe, Lance and Aaron, our boccia team, won Team of the Year award!

Fun Run

Y6 had a great fun run this week, on a beautiful day with some incredible costumes.  They really threw themselves into it: Leo and Yamin were sumo wrestlers, Roman was SpongeBob and Phoebe was a grabbing machine!  There were Spice Girls, a Pterodactyl and many more – what a fun bunch of children.   We’re still awaiting the final monies for the grand total towards their end of year performance of ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

Party in the Park

We have had a lovely afternoon today hosting the cluster schools ‘Party in the Park’ on the field this year.  Luckily the weather held off and we loved the individual school performances alongside the whole group singing.  It is great to get all the schools together as many children will become friends when they meet at secondary school.

Parking

Please be aware that someone double parked in Ellis Way today blocking the road completely and a local medic could not get through.  Please park carefully and with respect for our local neighbours.

Class Assemblies

We have had two assemblies this afternoon.  Miss Sheikh’s class, 4 Renoir, informed us all about animals and habitats and we enjoyed all the singing including the Rain Forest song.  Miss Conroy’s class, 5 Gaudi, taught everyone about the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age through drama and singing.

It’s been a busy week!

Have a lovely relaxing weekend.

Alison Harvey
