Dear Parents

Reflection on the term

I want to say thank you to the staff who have worked incredibly hard to settle the children this half term after 18 months of lockdowns. The children’s focus and concentration on their learning is improving in leaps and bounds. Catch Up has proved to impact well and specific children are narrowing gaps that appeared during lockdown. We have enjoyed observing the foundation subjects across the school and I am so impressed with the children’s breadth of knowledge, the way they are able to retrieve information and connect to past learning. They are becoming confident little historians and geographers.

Thank you to all of you, for your support as families, working closely with us to achieve the best for the children.

A message for last year’s Y6 (now Y7)

We were delighted with last year’s Y6 cohort who performed exceptionally well in their SAT tests against schools nationally. This data isn’t published, but we know that they kept working hard and engaged brilliantly with the Seesaw Learning Platform and are well prepared for their futures.

Covid-19 update

Cases of covid-19 are picking up in school, so please be mindful when out and about over half-term. In school we will keep using hand gels, adults will wear masks in close proximity and we will all keep sensibly socially distanced.

Beat the Street

I wondered what the children were signing in to at the school gate today and realised it was ‘Beat the Street’, a town council run initiative that Miss Baxter told us all about a while ago. What a brilliant idea to encourage families to get outside and take some exercise in any way they prefer; bike, walk, scoot, or run! Apparently, you can get extra points with different activities uploaded to the council website each week. Find your maps and have a great time over half term. https://www.beatthestreet.me/northampton/

African drumming – a message from Mrs Holding

Year 5 and 6 took part in some African Drumming this week. We looked closely at how Africans used to use drums for communication. We did some call and response and then looked at some cyclic patterns, creating different sounds with their drums. We really enjoyed it!

Mystery at Magpie Manor

Y4 treated us to a play, after having not performed live for a couple of years. It was lovely to have live singing, dancing and acting back in the main hall. The children performed with enthusiasm and looked like they were really enjoying the experience. Thank you to all the Y4 staff who worked so hard.

Have a great half term

Alison Harvey
