Dear Parents

Jill and Fred’s Hysterical, Historical Adventure!

Year 5 have been busy performing their play to their parents this week after the culmination of a lot of hard work, practise and preparation.  Their group singing was beautiful with some remarkable individual solos. It was lovely to see the children’s shining confident performances.  A special mention to Lily -Rose who as well as playing her part, signed for the deaf members of our audience and for those with a hearing impairment making it inclusive for all.

Friends AGM

It was lovely to attend the Friends' AGM this week. It was a real celebration of the strong and supportive relationship between the school and the Friends, and it was exciting to hear what they have planned for the children and families of Bridgewater. Leena Patel (Chair) and Alison Hemmings-Buckler (Secretary) stepped down as Trustees after many years of service. We were delighted to welcome Gemma Crooke and Ellie Rutherford as the new Chair and Secretary. They are looking forward to working closely with the Treasurer, Andrew Myrie, and the rest of the dedicated committee.

Easter Eggstravaganza

The Friends Easter Eggtravaganza was a big hit thanks to your generosity donating so many eggs; they raised £410!  It was Gemma’s first event as Chair and was very busy and lots of fun thanks to; Esther expertly painting bunny faces, lots of prizes on the tombola, raffles and colouring Easter Pictures.  So many smiley, chocolatey faces!

It was lovely to see Janette the next day collecting the egg donations from Mrs Gill Douglas who coordinates the school’s charity events, to distribute them to vulnerable young adults and families around the town – she literally had a car full.  Janette never stops supporting others in the community and you can find her charity on the flyer on our Twitter page and Facebook.

Special Announcement!

Well done to Theo in Y2 who came in 1st place in the Queen Mothers Handwriting Competition and Sofia in Y2 who came in 2nd place. You can see their beautiful handwriting on Twitter and Facebook.  It shows how hard the children are working on their handwriting and care and presentation of their work, not only these two superstars but all the children across the school.  Mrs Heidi Douglas was thrilled, as she leads the development of handwriting across the school.

Year 3 Pizzas

I have been tempted by the smell of delicious pizzas made by Year 3 in the STEM room all this week!  I really was impressed with their neat chopping and slicing skills … they looked delicious.

Brass Concert

Miss Adnett’s Year 3 class performed their brass concert this week and it never ceases to amaze me how skilled they become in the space of six weeks learning with Mr Fountain and Mr Baker.  It was such a fun concert, and the progress was incredible – I hope some of them take it up next term and develop their skills further.

Mexican Week

Mrs Hsu has been inspiring Key Stage 1 to learn about the Mexican culture and language this week.  She has really enjoyed working with our enthusiastic younger children for the week.

Drawing Club

I am so impressed with the writing that Early Years are producing in Drawing Club, after a short snappy input of seven minutes.  We are seeing great progress and it was lovely to see the children helping each other with their sounds and ideas.

Year 2 SATs information Evening

Thank you to those who attended the meeting last night led by Miss Knight and the team. They were able to support you and answer some important questions.  If you were unable to attend, Miss Knight has made a video with the slides that you can access on Seesaw.

Football Match Report by Miss Peal and Miss Ottaway

Bridgewater played their first away game yesterday at Malcolm Arnold Prep School. The game was the perfect balance of competitiveness and good sportsmanship from both sides. It was an exciting match and the end result was 6-3 to Malcolm Arnold. Special mention to Leo for his determination to get the ball and perseverance throughout the whole game. Also, to Jeremiah for motivating his team mates. It was great to see goals from Damien, Noah and Leo too. Well done team, we are looking forward to the next match already!

Year 5 & 6 Gymnastics Competition

This morning the Year 5 & 6 gymnasts have achieved second place, having missed out by 1 point! Charlie and the team were delighted with their performances.  They showed fantastic balance, control and elegance.

What a week! what a term! – it’s been great ?

Have a lovely Easter.

Mrs Alison Harvey
