Dear Parents

We have had a lovely week back and everyone coped very well in the heatwave!  The children have been calm, focused in their classrooms and have shown very good manners around the school.

RAAC Update

Fortunately, we don’t have any RAAC brickwork in our school with the main building being built in 2007 and the new Upper Phase building in 2016.  The school has been looked after well by the AMEY staff and the Grounds Team during the summer.

Online Safety

This week we have reminded the children about the importance of online safety and to remember the Netiquette rules which you can find at  Bridgewater Primary School. - Online Safety

The children will be working on updating a new version of this policy ready for Safer Internet Day in February 2024.

We have also reminded them about how to use the play equipment safely and rules and procedures at drop offs and pickups.

Parking at Drop Off

I’ve walked around and checked what is happening with the parking and driving at drop off this morning.  To ease congestion, it is best to park on one side of the road and Milverton Crescent was excellent apart from one silver Mercedes which did cause some congestion as traffic tried to pass.  There were a couple of cars parked on the opposite side in Huntsham Close on the pavement obstructing push chairs and one red car parked at an odd angle obstructing vision on Exmoor Close.  Moving back towards school, people were arriving late, driving too fast, causing congestion and reversing into foot traffic dangerously around Ellis Way.

In conclusion, please drive slowly with due care and attention, don’t park on pavements obstructing foot traffic and push chairs or on the opposite side of the road on Milverton Crescent causing traffic to back up.  We need to keep our families and local residents safe and park with consideration for all. Thank you.

Nursery

We have had seven new children start in the Nursery this week alongside some of our children who started last year and it has been all smiles, playing, learning and making new friends outside in the sunshine.

New Intake

The Reception staff have been visiting our ninety new intake children this week and next week we start to welcome Group A into school.  I’m sure they will all look very smart in their uniforms ready to have a lovely first day in big school.

I’ve started showing families around for the new intake for September 2024, so if you know anyone who is interested in a school place for next year, could you let them know that they can make an appointment for a tour via the website.  Thank you.

Poetry Week

We have had a whole school poetry week based on the beautiful book, ‘The Lost Words’ which explores vibrant vocabulary in poems about our wonderful wildlife and the natural world. I’m hoping the children can tell you all about their class poem and how it has inspired their own work.

Have a lovely weekend

Alison Harvey
