Creating a waterproof house for the wolf!

Recently we learnt that the wolf only blew the 3 little pigs houses down because he didn’t have his own home.  He only wanted a warm place to stay for the night! Year 1 have set out on a project to make their own house for the wolf. We have been exploring materials in science and have explored the properties of materials such as rigid, strong, bendy and transparent. Our next exploration this week was whether a material is waterproof or not. The wolf will need a waterproof material for his roof!

We explored how to create a fair test and with a partner, tested tin foil, cling film, kitchen roll, fabric and slate. We put 6 drops of water onto the material and if it was dry underneath we concluded that it was waterproof. After lots of deliberation, we decided the slate would be the best material for the wolf!
