Year 1

Welcome to Year 1 September 2023. Our year group comprises:

  • 1 Kusama - Mrs Copeman & Miss Blundred  & Mrs Mustafaraj
  • 1 Goldsworthy - Mrs Hollingsworth, Miss Knapp
  • 1 Ringgold - Miss Bibi, Miss Arnold & Mrs Bedford

We are also fortunate enough to be supported by our HLTA, Mrs Burrows, who helps us with additional reading, writing and maths interventions.

A special visit from a Paralympic Swimming Champion!

Earlier this week, there was a special assembly and Maisie Summers-Newton MBE talked to us about her swimming career.

Miss Summers is completing her final placement of her Teaching degree with us at Bridgewater, so not only is Miss Summers being kept busy with teacher training, but she also swims eight times a week! That's because she is a Paralympic Swimming champion, and is currently training for Paris 2024.

Miss Summers won 2 gold medals at the Tokyo Paralympics and is also the world record holder for the SM6 200m Individual Medley.

1 Kusama were having their music lesson with Mrs Salter from NMPAT at this time and so Miss Summers made a special visit to our classroom on Friday so we didnt miss out!

Her inspiring story really touched us all and she taught us how important it is to be resilient and keep on trying!

We were lucky enough to hold her gold medals! Brilliant!

Thank you so much for coming to see us Maisie! Good luck in Paris!

Maisie MBE
