Happy New Year!

Welcome back! It has been lovely to hear about what everyone has been getting up to over the Christmas break, however we have been very busy in Nursery.

For the first week back we have been getting very busy mark making. The children have thoroughly enjoyed drawing self portraits. They have used mirrors to identify their different features, having a look at what colour their hair and eyes are.

The busy finger table has been very popular this week. Everyone has loved the game 'Make it, Break it'. The aim of the game is to see if you can make one of the many pictures before the timer runs out. It has been great to see the children taking turns with their friends and supporting each other with the game.

In the outdoor area the children have loved the water area. Everyone worked together to create a zigzag flume with the guttering. After completing this the children ran small plastic balls down their flume and decided to put a bucket at the end to catch them. this was very sucessful so the children wanted to try pouring water down the guttering. The children soon discovered that the water wasn't making it to the bucket and knew they had to change something. After discussing this, everyone moved the guttering around and experimented until they suceeded.

In the water tray the children have been exploring the marble run. They have been using trial and error to see if the marbles will make it to the bottom of their creation.

Next week we are working on nursery rhymes and challenging ourselves with rhyming words! Throughout the week we will all be working on this and it would be great if you could at home too!

How can you help at home?

We have lots of story sacks in the Nursery where the children can take them home and share them with their grown ups! It would also be great if you could sing a variety of nursery rhymes with your child and share any rhyming books you may have at home.
