This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We started looking at why we celebrate Chinese New Year and looked at China and its different buildings. The children noticed the buildings were very tall and started making their own towers. The children also got to taste some Chinese noodles and prawn crackers throughout the week. After looking at the Chinese dragon, all of the children worked together to make our own Nursery Chinese dragon!

You may be aware we have been focusing on traditional stories this week. In particular Goldilocks and The Three Bears. It has been great to see the children using the story in their play in all areas of the nursery. We also went down to the library where Mrs Tasher (our librarian) read to the children.

On Wednesday we had lots of fun in the hall and the children thoroughly enjoyed doing P.E. In the lesson, the children had to work together to try and keep the balloons up in the air, taking turns and communicating to one another. The next challenge was to work in pairs and work together to throw and catch the balloon.

Next week...

This week we are going to be continuing with exploring traditional tales. The children have really enjoyed playing with the characters from Goldilocks and the Three Bears and using the cottage to retell the story.  We will continue to read a range of traditional tales and explore the characters and settings. The children will be able to create puppets from some of our chosen traditional tales and we will be learning how to create a story map for Goldilocks.

- I can describe the main story settings, events and principal characters.

The children have also shown interest in numbers and have been asking questions about door numbers. We will explore numbers in our environment and be talking about numbers that are important to us, such as how old we are, what date our birthday is on and our door number. It would be lovely to see some tapestry posts on the children exploring numbers in their environment.

- Shows curiosity about numbers by offering comments or asking questions.
- Shows an interest in numerals in the environment.
