This week in Early Years we have been enjoying sharing stories.
We read the book ‘Each, Peach, Pear, Plum,’ and used our super listening ears to detect the rhyming words. To help us remember the order of the characters in the book, we drew a story map. The story map really helps us to keep up the pace when we retell the story as well as remember lots of details. We also matched some actions or gestures as we read to help prompt us.
After our lesson some of us decided to put on the story telling hat and cloak and had a go at at retelling the story independently to our our friends. It was a lot of fun.
As well as talking about familiar stories from our favourite books, we also like to share our Summer scrapbooks with each other. It’s nice to find out about our friends’ interests, the places they have visited and all about their families.
We love that each classroom has a book corner where we can go and quietly enjoy a book of our choice or access the ‘Story Shelves’ and retell a story using the props.
We are all learning to be Super Storytellers in Early Years. What’s your favourite story?
