Reception have had a super exciting first week back after the half term. All the children had great fun on their outside learning day getting mucky, splashing in puddles and exploring the natural world around them. We went on a nature walk around the school grounds. On our walk we collected lots of leaves and looked at the similarities and differences between them including using our mathematical language to describe them with words like long, short, wide and narrow. We used the leaves we collected to continue our learning on repeating patterns. The children made lots of great scientific observations of the natural world around them including noticing the frost and discussing how, where and why it could be found in the shaded areas and not in the sunny areas. After a very busy morning the children then got to enjoy their first fire pit at Bridgewater. We taught the children how to build a fire, how to keep safe around fires, and what scientific changes happen when we put a marshmallow near an open flame. We also used lots of lovely language to describe what we could see, hear, smell and taste throughout the experience.
On top of all of the outdoor fun we’ve also been busy making some beautiful firework inspired artwork, moving to and singing firework songs and learning to write a firework sentence! What a busy week it has been!
