During Walk in Wednesday, we investigated the stroop effect with our family members and class friends. We tested our reaction times when trying to say the colour that the word is written in and not the actual word. We learnt that it was harder to name the colours because the meaning of the word is not the same as its colour. We needed more thinking time which slowed down our response times. We demonstrated perseverance as we were keen to keep trying and beat our own times.

Did you manage to beat your time at home?

Later that day, we were fortunate enough to have a visit from Dr Baross, a sport and exercise lecturer at the University of Northampton. We enjoyed our practical workshop where we learnt about the cardiovascular system. First, we attached the blood pressure monitors to our fingers to measure our heart rates at rest. Then, we exercised to test how our hearts react when we become more physically active. After we had finished our exercise, we tested our heart rates again and spoke about why our heart rate had increased.
