Extreme Explorers!
What an exciting start to the term we've had! On Monday we all gathered in Mr Shipley's room and were given a talk from Mrs Biddle about the many skills tha extreme explorers need, in order to survive in the wilderness. We learned about knots and lashings before having a go for ourselves. We persevered and learned to make a combination of knots such as; a figure of eight knot, a thumb knot and a granny knot. All of these techniques came in handy on Tuesday, when we built our own shelters using just bamboo and string.
Throughout the two days we also learned about the cardinal and intercardinal compass points and nutrition. We learned about the eatwell plate to understand how to keep our bodies healthy by eating nutritious foods. We chopped vegetables and let them boil on the firepit outside to make a tasty, vegetable soup (one of the most exciting parts of the day!) We also prepared ingredients using our measuring skills to make nutritious energy bars. We ate them after burning lots of energy whilst doing a mathematical scavenger hunt! We ended the wow day by eating the soup, which was tasty!
Comment below with your favourite part and what you learnt.
