Year 6 had an exciting workshop with Mr Kastern where we learned about forces and electricity. First, we explored how electrical circuits work and how a switch can control the flow of electricity. Using batteries, wires, and a small motor, we built a simple circuit that powered the motor when the switch was turned on. It was amazing to see how completing the circuit made the motor spin! We talked about how electricity provides energy and how forces can make objects move.
After learning about circuits, we used our new knowledge to design and build a floating boat. We created a prototype first and then joined two sheets of polystyrene together to make a stronger base for our boat. Once the circuit and motor were attached, we tested our boats on water. When we switched them on, the motors created a force that pushed the boats forward. It was exciting to see our designs come to life and float across the water! The workshop helped us understand how science and engineering work together to solve problems and create moving inventions.
