We have been keeping a very close eye on our caterpillars for the past couple of weeks and we have some very exciting news!

Two weeks ago our caterpillars arrived, they started off very tiny and we started our caterpillar countdown! The adults explained to the children that they needed to eat lots of food so they could start to grow (just like The Hungry Caterpillar). Over the next week they almost quadrupled in size and the children were fascinated by how quickly they'd changed. 

At the beginning of the second week the children were excited to see that the caterpillars had disappeared and we were left with 5 chrysalises! Over the coming days we waited patiently to see when our butterflies would emerge. 

By the end of the second week 4/5 of our butterflies appeared! The children were ecstatic! We are still waiting for one more buttefly to make an appearance and next week we will be releasing them into our garden. The children have been really enjoying looking after our garden in the warm weather. They have been watering the plants, planting vegetables and flowers all ready for our beautiful butterflies to explore.
