In Reception, we cultivate a love of learning for life. Our curriculum is planned to provide balanced and relevant experiences for each individual child. We are passionate about outdoor learning and problem solving. It is important that our children feel safe to be risk takers as they approach their learning during the day.

Our teachers encourage us to challenge ourselves once we have built confidence in newly taught skills. We are then encouraged to use these skills in our free play to extend and consolidate our learning.

Each week we have new 'Rainbow Challenges,' with activities we need to complete independently. They support our physical development, phonics, writing and mathematical development. Our progress and work is recorded in a number of ways such as in our writing books, ‘Our Learning Journey’ scrap book and ‘Seesaw’.

Early Years is extremely busy and fantastic fun. Keep up to date with us by following our blog.

The Reception team is

  • R Hepworth – Mrs Wise and Miss Geneta
  • R Van Gogh – Miss Valentine and Mrs Beirne
  • R Kandinsky – Miss Baxter and Miss Webster

We are lucky to be supported by our HLTA, Miss Gill and additional teaching assistant, Miss Brack

Our P.E day is Friday morning. May we remind you to ensure that all your child’s kit is clearly labelled.

Please make sure that you bring your library book to school each Friday to be changed.

Remembrance Service.

On Friday the whole school community came together to hold our Remembrance Service.

We welcomed special guests Wynn Williams from CSALT, Anne Quinn from the local church of St Peter and St Paul and Vaughn Glynn from the Royal British Legion and over 1000 people gathered together on the playground. We watched children from each year group recite poems, dance and sing songs.

Early Years stood quietly and respectfully until it was their turn to recite their Poppy Poem.

It was rather chilly and windy but we were united in showing our respect for the soldiers who fought for us.

Some of us wore Poppies from home, from charities and poppy stickers.

To mark the occasion, the Early Years children sewed buttons onto felt poppies with Nanny Margaret's help.

When all 90 were complete, they became part of a collaborative project for displays in the Ignite hall and also the Early Years Unit.

It was a lovely service and the teachers were so proud of the Early Years children for reciting their poem in lovely big voices and supporting the older children by watching so patiently and listening respectfully.
