Languages and International Blog

Welcome to our Languages and International Blog. At Bridgewater, we have chosen Spanish as the language we teach, as it is widely spoken. This is taught to all children in years 3 to 6 by Mrs D'Agostini. We engage the children through playing games, singing songs and stories as well as developing their grasp of grammar and the written language. Please celebrate the children’s learning with us by commenting on the blog posts below. ¡Hasta luego!

We have been accredited with the International School Award (ISA) 2022-2025 in recognition of our international focus. We were praised by the British Council for our commitment to embedding a rich and creative range of international work.

Forest School

Year 5 have enjoyed our Forest School area, exploring combustion which is linked to their work in Science.  They toasted marshmallows to make s'mores and enjoyed sampling the results!  They also explored the area by finding different items such as kindling and knots and looked at the Spanish words for marshmallows and chocolate biscuits. It was a cold, crisp day with sunshine making it a good opportunity to describe the weather!

Spanish around School

This term, children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have had an opportunity to join in with Spanish songs to practise colours and numbers. The songs helped them begin learning the colours and use them in activities including colour by number and tile designs.  It has been a delight hearing the children saying Spanish words and greeting others around the school!
