Dear Parents
Science Week
We have had a very exciting Science Week! Mrs Hallett started the week with a whole school assembly, introducing this year’s theme: ‘Curiosity: What’s Your Question?’ Using a balloon as a stimulus, she demonstrated how curiosity encourages us to ask questions and investigate ideas about the world around us.
We have been incredibly fortunate to welcome a range of wonderful volunteers who delivered inspiring workshops and talks throughout the week. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to them for giving their time and sharing their expertise. The children enjoyed learning about a wide variety of topics, including nursing, hairdressing and the science of why oil and water don’t mix, aerospace engineering and straw rockets, making batteries from lemons, geodesy and hydrography and the science behind how aeroplanes land, ‘Spot’ the robot dog joined us from BAM construction and last but not least, a fan boat workshop. These experiences have been invaluable, allowing the children to meet real-life scientists and professionals while seeing how science plays an important role in our everyday lives.
The lunchtime workshops, run by our Science Ambassadors, have also been extremely popular. It was wonderful to see the older children leading fun experiments and engaging younger pupils in activities that created real awe and wonder.
There is still time to enter the Science Week competition, with the closing date on Monday 23rd March. We can’t wait to see the creative ideas the children come up with!
Please visit our class blogs for more details about all the exciting activities that have taken place during Science Week.
Year 4 Multisport Festival
Year 4 went to NSG for a Multisport Festival and took part in a relay race, basketball, parachute and a fun balancing activity. The children were well behaved, very competitive and absolutely loved it.
Early Years Phonics Workshop
Thank you to Mrs Wise and the Early Years team for the Early Years Phonics Workshop held in the hall yesterday afternoon. It was very well attended and lovely to see everyone taking part in the practical activities.
Year 3 and 4 Gymnastics Competition
A small group of children competed in a multi-school gymnastics competition at Bridgewater today. The standards were very high from all children who have been practising hard. The team came in fifth place overall and Austin’s incredible vault came first. Well done everyone.
Year 5 Being Active
A small number of our Year 5 Young Leaders went to the Kings Park Conference Centre this morning and thought about how to keep active. They are planning to make some posters now and will be leading an assembly encouraging us all to be active soon!
Non-Uniform Day
Next Thursday 19th March is a Non-Uniform Day where the children bring in Easter eggs that we donate to Janette for the vulnerable children and families. They were very much appreciated last year.
Have a lovely weekend
Alison Harvey
